FMLN is an acronym which stands for Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front in English. It refers to a political party and former guerrilla group in El Salvador. The FMLN was established in 1980 as a coalition of left-wing organizations aimed at overthrowing the ruling military junta and bringing about socio-economic reforms in the country.
The political and ideological roots of the FMLN lie in the struggle for social justice and equality in El Salvador.
