Once the virus enters the host's body, it can target lymphoid organs, leading to the proliferation of infected lymphocytes, which can circulate throughout the bloodstream and contribute to the spread of the disease within the animal.
BLV infection is characterized by a long incubation period and can remain asymptomatic in many cases. However, over time, infected cattle may develop a range of clinical signs, including lymphoma (cancer of lymphoid tissues), enlarged lymph nodes, weight loss, decreased milk production, and general weakness. In severe cases, it can lead to the death of the affected animal.

This includes avoiding the introduction of infected animals into uninfected herds, regular testing and culling of infected animals, maintaining good hygiene practices, and promoting a strong immune system through vaccination and optimal nutrition.
