In HMN distal Type I, the condition primarily affects the motor neurons, leading to progressive degeneration and weakness in the muscles of the distal extremities, such as the hands and feet. The onset of symptoms often occurs in adolescence or early adulthood, and the progression of muscle weakness is usually slow.
