It represents an abnormal presence of gas within the uterine cavity, which is typically a hollow, muscular organ where fetal development occurs during pregnancy.
Physometra can occur as a result of several underlying causes, including infection, such as gas-forming organisms, or iatrogenic factors like gynecological procedures involving instrumentation of the uterus. It may also be associated with a history of prior pelvic surgery, uterine perforation, or uterine anomalies.
