A tricolour television tube refers to a specific type of cathode ray tube (CRT) technology used in early color televisions. It is a display device capable of reproducing images in color by using a combination of three primary colors: red, green, and blue.
In a tricolour television tube, a cathode ray is emitted, which consists of a beam of electrons. This beam is directed towards a fluorescent screen that is coated with phosphors. These phosphors emit light when struck by the electron beam.
However, unlike monochrome television tubes, tricolour tubes have a layer of phosphor dots arranged in groups of three. Each group consists of three tiny dots, corresponding to the primary colors RGB. When the electron beam reaches the screen, it is deflected by an electromagnetic field, causing it to strike the appropriate phosphor dots.
By selectively controlling the intensity of the electron beam on each primary color dot, the tricolour television tube can create a wide range of colors. Variation in the intensity of each primary color dot allows the mixing of colors to produce a detailed and vibrant color display.
